Importing a Car
If you are planning to bring your car into Croatia, there are a number of things to consider. You can get cover from a number of UK insurance companies, but they tend to limit you to a maximum of 90 days in any 12 month period. Any company that provides European wide cover will charge a hefty premium! Most insurers seem to provide 3rd party only cover once the 90 days has expired or at least provide insurance cover at the lowest level available in your chosen country, but you will need to check this with your insurance provider. In Croatia you can buy temporary insurance at the boarder, but this means you are only insured at the lowest level for driving in Croatia (not Bosnia, Slovenia etc)
The other problem you will face with a right hand drive car is the fact that you have to take it back to the UK every 12 months to get an MOT and Tax. This could prove inconvenient to some people.
The simplest solution for people who need a vehicle (left hand drive) available in Croatia all the time is to buy one here or import one from somewhere in Europe. But be aware of the import duties - If you do not have a visa you will be liable for Import Duty, PDV (VAT) and Trosarina.
Any car that is imported into Croatia cannot have a chassis number older than 7 years. If you need more assistance importing a car, please contact us at info@adriaticpropertyservices.com
