Poor Profits from EUR 6.3 Billion in Tourist Revenue
05.04.2007.
In 2006, the tourist revenue totaled EUR 6.3 billion, but the hotel industry profits hovered around paltry 1 percent. The industry mostly blames the Government for the poor performance, citing the unresolved issue of property rights over the land occupied by most hotels and tourist resorts, the high tax and para-tax burdens and the value-added tax (PDV). About a quarter of all revenue goes to State and local taxes and levies.
